Kathryn Graeter, originally from Massachusetts, moved to this County in 1975 with her husband, John. After years spent raising their children, vegetables and goats, working both as a paralegal and in education, she realized her childhood dream of owning a horse. One horse led to another and by January 1997 the dream expanded to include children and adults with special needs. Kathryn co-founded Mountin’ Hopes wishing to extend to others the healing and empowerment she had gained from being with horses. She and John now live two blocks from the Appalachian Trail in the small town of Hot Springs, surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest.
